This painting really turned out so cute! local Chamorro boy and girl are performing the stick dance which is a tradition here on the island of Guam this painting was bought by my sister-in-law to give as a gift to be presented at an event. The Sun is a round cutout of a Chamorro Phrase: "Hafa Adai" which means Hello.

Here she is Pom-Pom Pinkie she is a gnome girl with a happy attitude! her braided hair is light pink made from felt, white rick-rack trimming accent her cherry print cap and pocket apron. I hand painted her face and red boots to give that art doll look! arm's and leg's are white with blue stripped fabric. Folk Art Chamorita Girl Lattestone Garden Based on My Chamorro Culture

Folk art primitive painting based on my chamorro cultural background as you can see there are lattestone pillars three of them. In fact my ancestor's build houses on top of these I collaged rare or extinct bird's of Guam they are the Chichirika bird on top of the lattestone on the left and the Ko'Ko Bird he is behind the leaf of the vine on top of the lattestone to the right. Chamorita girl wears a plumeria lei with a lattestone pendent around her neck she holds a coconut weaved fan in her hand this painting is very warm in colors I was impressed with my finished work painting is up for auction on eBay 10% of the sales will go to World Wild Life Fund.

I am Really Seeing Angels lot's of Them!

For some reason it's like a magnet for me creating cute little primitive angels some of the backgrounds as you can see I used archival prints of antique gospel music sheets.

I used a liquitex acrylic medium gel to collage the sheets on to the canvas I then applied the same medium over the top and it created texture on the surface.

Spring is Calling Me Out!

Before heading down the trail I got a chance to take a photograph of a striker vehicle they were so ready when they saw me with my camera and tripod. They had an event down here in celebration of the return of soldiers from deployment. Aah! life here on Fort Lewis is for the most part secure, peaceful and quit. People down here on post like nature walks, fishing, boating and camping I wonder what else I could discover.

Me and my family decided to take a walk down by the lake here on North Fort Lewis. It was a change of scenery for us as we are taking more outings now that the weather is warmer. This is me looking up at a pine tree above it was a beautiful view looking out at the lake walking along the trail.

I took a photo of some dandelions along the trail I know their just weeds but sometimes when spring time is around they kinda perk me up with all their puffy fuzzy white heads along the ground, not good for the allergies though.

Here is my son Tobey he had a chance to blow some dandelions he really had fun along the nature trail. I just told him not to pull some leaves because I didn't know if there was poison oak, ivy or sumac in the area. He was so filled with adventure to explore what was around him and examine nature along the way.

This view was therapeutic for me just getting outdoors took me to places that brings the goodness of nature around me and the colors of flowers just popping out among the greenery. This was actually my first nature walk with my family since we have been here on Fort Lewis. I love spring time here and summer it makes up for all the cold and gloomy rainy weather here in Washington. Seeing colors come alive and make it's way into another cycle of life through trees, flowers, greenery and the birds singing like as if I was watching a painting come to life I so happen to witness a great happening each spring here.

My Thoughts:
I am surrounded by his beauty
God is colorful and glorious!

Using Antique Music Sheets As a Background

Today I am thinking about what to add to my painting I decided I will use vintage or antique gospel music hymn sheets. This will give an instant new meaning to my paintings with messages of hope, faith and more!

You can use these to create background texture and appeal I scan and make a copy of the original I guess it's because I don't want to ruin it.

They might not be anymore left in the world after awhile I use archival acid free paper that you can buy at office supply stores like office max or Wall Mart.

This is an example of what it would look like after scanning and printing

Just tear of edges around the music sheet I don't use scissors for this I like the effect of an uneven edge on my canvas. You can paint over the surface with acrylic paints after it has been completely dried.

On background I collaged archival papers of photo art designed by my daughter Jaydene Flores
and added vintage style music sheet.

Then added layers of several different colors using painters tape to get an abstract look.

To bring it out I outlined and added acrylic paints to her features and painted flowers and leaves along top and bottom corners and butterflies on her chest area.

She represents many young women today they can be performing artists, models, pageant beauties or the little girl in heart. Women of today can accomplish great things even through hardships and grow as blossomed beauties.

This painting will be donated for auction to the Susan Kolmen Foundation

The Garden Angel a Collage Mixed Media Painting 11x14"

Here is my latest painting this is a collage mixed media painting
I used acrylic paints, artists pencils, oil pastels, collage papers.

I actually printed out a vintage clip art from my collection of some flowers and a butterfly
and printed it on archive quality acid free paper.

To make it seam more natural I painted over some petals of the flowers
it gave it a sort of 3D look I then painted similiar flowers on opposite corner

I then applied an antique stain wash and then sealed with kamar varnish came out really nice!

My painting is titled:
"The Garden Angel"

Butterfly's home is were the flower's bloom
were the sun shines down on the garden.

When a flower wilts she handles it with care
and mends their stems she is the angel of the garden.

As mothers we love and tend to are children with care
and behold how beautiful they are and the wonderful things
they do.
Some times we have to handle with care and help mend their brokeness
and help them pick up their heads and look up again.

Are suroundings are like a garden we are like angels to are children
they need us even when they don't think so!
